Playing Mom or Postpartum Joy

As a mother of three "stair step" children, I often feel anxious about how to keep my house clean, how to teach them, how to spend one on one time with each and develop those relationships. Yesterday I just had an epiphany that what my kids really want is me. They want to be like me and just be with me and receive positive attention.

So sometimes I need to set aside chores, and just play. How much happier we all are when I do this. Playing is the work that young kids are responsible for. And they learn while they do it, especially when mom plays with them.

And when we do work together, I found a trick to get them involved. Laundry has become Spanish time. I say, "Pantalones o camisa?" as I hold up an article of clothing. They are thrilled.

From lack of sleep and other aspects of this motherhood thing, I have found myself losing trains of thought and feeling like people are listening to me with boredom. I feel socially inept, or just different than I used to be. If I ever used to be clever or amusing.

If this post is not clever or amusing, it's because it's 4:12 am and I've been up since 2:30 and I'm giving in to motherhood and loving it.

Hang in there! You are wonderful, and it sounds like you are handling the huge responsibility of motherhood with flying colors. It's sure difficult when sleep is hard to come by, though. I wish I were there so I could take the kids and let you have a 2 hour nap.

I need to call you!

p.s. isn't it great that Josie is now in the cheesy smile stage? I can't get James to smile normal for the life of me.
