So I Laughed

Wednesday I took 3 children aged four and under to the Public Library. Yes, sometimes I am a little crazy. At least Simon doesn't run away with my keys now, like he did a year ago the last time I took all my kids there.

He needed a diaper change, and Josie needed to use the toilet, so we all entered the Family Restroom. I immediately assessed dangers and plan of attack: Get Simon changed quick because Josie can only block Kyle from fishing in the toilet for a limited time. Before I was done taking care of Simon, whose spine on the tile floor was making him complain, Kyle realized that the part of the toilet behind Josie provided unrestricted access to the toilet water, now combined with urine (score!). What could I really do? So I just laughed. Finished with Simon, I peeled Kyle's wet hoodie off, washed his hands, and dried them under the extremely loud air dryer, which made him cry, which crying made Simon yell at me, "Stop, Mom! Kyle doesn't like that!" How was everyone not looking at us as we came out?

Don't worry, we had to re-enter the room of noise and terror thirty minutes later to change Kyle. He cried the whole time while Simon again yelled at me.

When we finally got back in the van, we talked about what we did well at in the library and what we should improve upon, when we go again (in a year).

By the way, a crazy man once yelled at me that Simon needed to "Shut up" because "this is the library!" as the elevator doors closed in front of him. That time I almost cried, but I've since learned to laugh.

Yes, sometimes all you can do is laugh!

Someday you will be able to go with them to the library, I promise! (Although one of our kids is still scarred by the auto-flush toilets and loud hand dryers in that library...)

Glad to hear that other people besides me have to gear up to take loads of small children places. All four kids did go successfully shopping yesterday--best trip I can remember. Nobody ran away from me, nobody threw a big tantrum over someone else being in their "spot" by the cart.

Come visit us again!

It was probably the same crazy man that left a big pee puddle in the elevator. We got a ride in the "employees only" one after we reported that. Ha Ha.

Call me next time you attempt he library--I will bring a Coke over.

We live in Arkansas still. It was very unusual to get this much snow and very fun!

I remember those power-dryers at the FPL all too well. I never thought I would miss them, but I'd trade libraries plus two of our cars if I could have that library again.

Mean people you-know-what.

I love reading about your experiences of being a mother. You are such a great mom! Max and I were talking about you yesterday on that same matter. Don't forget that I can throw a rock and hit the library from my house. If you ever see my car there, give me a call and I'll come hang at the library with you guys. I love your blog Juli! I find it very inspirational :)
