Simon

Blogging has been a little sparse lately, and taking a cue from my friend Becca, I am going to do a series updating on each of the kids. I will start with Number 2. When I was pregnant with Simon, I got the feeling, "this is a special little guy." And I have spent just over four years figuring out why.
Simon says he is, "the specialist because I am a good sleeper." We can count on Simon to go to sleep pretty well and sleep all night. It is wonderful. During the day, he requires every ounce of my patience and creative thinking.
Simon is detail-oriented. This is expressed in his meticulousness with drumming skills, and natural ability to sound out words that he reads. We don't have to tell a babysitter how to get him to bed; he will give the instructions down to the final detail of exactly how far open to crack the door.
He loves treats, one on one time with parents, being in charge, making sure other people follow rules,  "snack math" and reading, his special bedtime stories, playing drums, and making friends. He is outgoing: he is on first name basis with our neighbors and hangs around outside with a few of them in particular.
When I asked him what he wanted to do for a job, he replied, "I want to take care of the ladies." And he already does. A year ago at the park, he stood up to a nine or ten year old who was being unkind to the girls. I was so proud.

Josie: "Many hands make light work."
Simon: "That's right, and one hand makes dark work."

Simon: "You can't drink straight lime juice, but curvy is okay."

When he was two or three, he said thank you to the nurse after she gave him a shot.

He started Primary this year. The president told me he raised his hand the first or second day and asked when they would be getting special treats. I used to think it strange when kids would try to give "Heavenly Father" for every answer, but Simon is just such a boy. He has a busy (and wandering) mind, and during family home evening, when asked a question, he may guess, "Does it have to do with being good?" or simply "Jesus."

A favorite memory of Simon is when he got into bed with me and got right up in my face to say, "I'm so proud of you." He used to give me special double kisses every night. Now he just does single. But he still says I'm his girlfriend.

I believe his persistent, sensitive, loyal, and amicable nature are qualities that can positively impact society around him and allow him to serve the Lord with an amazing heart.

We love Simon!

I loved reading this, I can still remember Simon when he was only 3 months old. It is wonderful to see what a truly special boy he is turning out to be. I miss him like crazy! (and you too of course)
